The Boston Public Garden Foot Bridge, commonly known as the Lagoon Bridge, the signature suspension bridge over the middle of the pond in the Boston Public Gardens, is on the National Register of Historic Places; it opened in 1869 as the world's shortest functioning suspension bridge, before its conversion to a girder bridge in 1921; the original suspension system lacking function still remains as historical decoration.
