First Skate Smiles

Over fifty years ago
I laced on skates and I smiled.
It was wherever ice was
in Kennebunk; we found it.
We counted on the weather.
That was then; memories smile.

Driving down Main Street I stared,
new rink? Zamboni? I smiled.
I paused, I parked and watched skaters,
today's kids, again I smiled.
What a grand place for a skate,
Still smiling, skaters smiled back.
