Ásgrímur Jónsson (1876-1958) donated his house to the Icelandic Government along with all his paintings in his possession. There were 192 oil paintings and 277 water colors along with many unfinished pictures from various periods in his life.

He was one of the first painters in Iceland to make art a professional living.
